Party ‘Saving Democracy’ Can’t Stop Subverting Democracy
Democrats cannot fail voters, they can only be failed. Thus democracy must be neutered. In the end, Democrats aren't saving democracy; they're saving their own skins.
Democrats are talking out of both sides of their mouth again, claiming to save democracy while simultaneously suppressing non-Democratic candidates.
Team Blue officials are pushing to get Green Party candidate Jill Stein removed from the Wisconsin ballot over what appears to be a very flimsy legal technicality. The Associated Press reports that a DNC official lodged a complaint with the state’s election board arguing that under state law, the Green Party can’t nominate presidential electors and is thus barred from appearing on the ballot.
From the AP:
State law requires that those who nominate electors in October be state officers, which includes members of the Legislature, judges and others. They could also be candidates for the Legislature. The Green Party does not have anyone who qualifies to be a nominator, and therefore can’t legally name a slate of presidential electors as required by law, the complaint alleges.
The DNC’s attempt to garrotte their opposition comes after the state’s bipartisan elections commission gave the Green Party the green light to appear on November’s presidential ballot last February.
But Democrats can’t let a little thing like that get in the way of saving democracy. After all, as the AP notes “The last time Stein was on the ballot in Wisconsin for the Green Party was in 2016, when she got just over 31,000 votes — more than Donald Trump’s winning margin that year of just under 23,000 votes.”
The DNC is blatantly attempting to prevent Stein voters from siphoning votes from Kamala Harris and allowing Donald Trump to eke out another Wisconsin win. It’s cravenly undemocratic and unfortunately not an isolated incident.
Democratic officials on North Carolina’s Board of Elections decided that voters don’t get to choose RFK Jr. 's We the People Party, Cornell West’s Justice for All Party, or the Constitution Party of North Carolina come November because they think people are too stupid. As I wrote previously, Board of Elections member Jeff Carmon, a Democrat to no one’s surprise, wanted to avoid people “being misled.”
When they’re not abusing their positions on election boards, Democrats repeatedly engage in tactical lawfare against Trump in attempts to get him disqualified from the election. Multiple blue states including Colorado, Illinois, and Maine attempted to circumvent the will of more than half the country and eliminate their political competition from appearing on the ballot.
In Colorado, the state’s Democratic appointed supreme court ruled that Trump was “disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment,” while in Illinois, Judge Tracie R. Porter argued the State Board of Elections should have accepted a challenge to Trump’s candidacy.
Maine was the most galling. There, Democratic Secretary of State Shenna Bellows unilaterally disqualified Trump from the state’s ballot citing her “sacred obligation” to do so.
Bellows wrote “I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection. The oath I swore to uphold the Constitution comes first above all, and my duty under Maine’s election laws, when presented with a Section 336 challenge, is to ensure that candidates who appear on the primary ballot are qualified for the office they seek.”
Quick note, Trump has not been charged with insurrection even in the most aggressive federal cases, so it appears Bellows knows more than both Special Counsel Jack Smith and the entire DOJ. That or she’s pulling the insurrection argument out of her ass. Tough to say.
Honestly, we should just cancel the 2024 elections and coronate Harris as president since the Democrats know what’s best for us anyway. Can’t let the people vote wrongly!
Because at the end of the day, that’s what all these efforts to subvert the will of the people are all about. It’s not about actually defending democracy because democracy sometimes means your team loses. For all of the claims that Trump doesn’t respect democracy and that democracy will cease immediately the second he sits down at the Resolute Desk, it seems like there’s a fair bit of projection at play.
It’s always “January 6th!” or “Stolen election!” without a hint of irony surrounding Russiagate or several occupations of government buildings by Democratic voters. Democrats cannot fail voters, they can only be failed. Thus democracy must be neutered.
In the end, Democrats aren't saving democracy; they're saving their own skins.
If you can’t beat ‘em, cheat ‘em.
