Incompetence, Not Conspiracy, Behind Assassination Attempt
“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” The temptation is great to attribute the assassination attempt to the cabal. But I wouldn’t give them too much credit.
Who almost killed President Trump? Was he a radical looking to go out in a blaze of glory? Or was he a pawn of the deep state groomed by a cabal of shadow operatives to take out a threat to their dominance?
It’s the former, but that hasn’t stopped many on the right from jumping to conclusions about a massive conspiracy to kill Donald Trump.
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh tweeted “The theory that this was all just incompetence becomes less tenable with each new piece of information,” while journalist Tom Elliot posted “As far as I’m concerned we should presume the FBI & Secret Service, if not the Biden Admin, were complicit in last night’s assassination attempt.”
It is absolutely true that the lead-up to the shooting was a disaster. Per new reports, the shooter had scoped the site of Trump’s rally days in advance. After that, more than an hour passed between the time the shooter was flagged as suspicious and when he fired the shots. According to officers at the scene, the shooter was seen with a range-finder 30 minutes before the shooting, and he was spotted by snipers 20 minutes before he shot at Trump.
By all accounts everyone involved in security for this event should be hauled before Congress and fired. It’s a travesty that Kimberly Cheatle, the moron Director of the U.S. Secret Service, still has her job and is seemingly receiving Biden’s backing. For his own sake, one would assume he would rather not have an incompetent fool in charge of making sure he doesn’t get shot.
But as much of an utter shitshow it was, it wasn’t a conspiracy to kill Trump. It was the culmination of several incompetent officials and several bad policy decisions that culminated in Trump’s near-death experience, not an active campaign by the Deep State.
There were already clear signs that the Secret Service was becoming embroiled in identity politics that severely lowered the agency’s capacity to effectively serve prior to the shooting.
Cheatle pushed for DEI initiatives to shove unqualified women into the department, debasing the standards and creating a security risk. Indeed, viral footage and photography of the shooting indicated many of the female agents were confused about what to do and struggled to holster their weapons.
When confronted over why the hell there was no Secret Service presence on the roof the shooter used to attack Trump, Cheatle bafflingly blamed the slope of the roof. “That building in particular has a sloped roof, at its highest point,” Cheatle told Good Morning America, “And so, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.”
Colossally stupid. But not evidence of deliberate meddling. One argument I am far more inclined towards is that the Biden administration and the Deep State created the conditions by which an assassin could take out Trump.
RealClearPolitics reporter Susan Crabtree tweeted that “Secret Services resources were diverted to Jill Biden's event and away from Trump's because they followed agency protocol applying to Trump as a former president” and that “There were also many supplemental agents from different field officers (not Trump's regular detail) providing security at the rally because Trump's regular detail has been overworked (some working 7 days straight), and only two counter-snipers.” The Secret Service has denied this happened.
This alleged refusal to provide Trump with protection came on the heels of J6 Committee ringleader Rep. Bennie Thompson introducing the DISGRACED Former Protectees Act that would have stripped Trump of Secret Service protection.
And as I’ve written before, the rhetoric from President Biden, Congressional Democrats, and their media proxies about how Trump will begin a reign of American Nazism should he be given power again directly led to the assassination attempt. It is simply impossible to label your opposition the embodiment of evil for nearly a decade and not expect people to try and take him out.
It’s this trifecta of DEI, active removal of security resources, and vile slander that led to the assassination attempt. Some might say that is tantamount to a conspiracy to get Trump killed. I can see where they’re coming from, but I disagree.
There’s a saying I’m fond of, “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” The temptation is great to attribute the assassination attempt to the cabal. But I wouldn’t give them too much credit.
They are just that stupid.
