Don’t Buy the Unity Talk, The Assassination Attempt is All on Dems
The temperature absolutely must be turned down in America or political violence like attempted assassinations will happen again. But it’s Democrats who should take their hands off the thermostat.
Joe Biden sat in the Oval Office the night after a gunman attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump and delivered a speech urging calm. “There is no place in America for this kind of violence — for any violence. Ever. Period. No exception,” Biden said, “We can’t allow this violence to be normalized.”
Funny, he didn’t seem all that concerned about violence when he was calling Trump an existential threat to American democracy.
At a Detroit rally the day before the assassination attempt, Biden said “I mean this from the bottom of my heart, Trump is a threat to this nation." It’s not the first time the President has said that Trump represented an apocalyptic level threat. Throughout his time in office, Biden has repeatedly referred to Trump as “a threat to our democracy,” “a threat to our freedoms,” “a genuine threat,” and “a threat to everything America stands for.”
Is it any wonder that someone took that rhetoric to heart and attempted to end the “threat?” The left already refers to Trump as “Orange Hitler”, but leftist rag The New Republic took it literally with their June issue where they decried a second Trump election as “American Fascism.”
Set against an image of the former president sporting Hitler’s iconic toothbrush mustache, the outlet asked “A second Trump presidency could represent an all-out assault on the rule of law. How might this play out?"
It would be a moral failure to allow a Hitler-esque figure to rise to power, therefore it’s okay to use any means possible, including violence, to ensure it never happens again.
The left routinely compares their opposition to Nazis in order to justify committing violent acts against them. “Punch a Nazi” has become a leftist call to action, something I’m all too familiar with in my hometown of Portland, Oregon.
Trump is unfortunately not the first Republican target of violence inspired by Democratic rhetoric. A gunman opened fire during a Republican training session for the Congressional baseball game back in 2017. The shooter hit Congressman Steve Scalise and a number of other participants, very nearly killing them. The shooter was a left-wing activist who had posted on social media anti-Trump and anti-GOP comments like “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”
Sound familiar?
Or consider the very near assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at the height of the Roe v. Wade protests. The assassin was absolutely inspired to try and kill the justice based on rhetoric from Democrats like Chuck Schumer. The Senate Majority Leader stood on the steps of the Supreme Court and screamed “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
The left tries to deflect from their own guilt and claim that it’s actually Trump’s rhetoric that’s responsible for violence. Indeed, Biden implied as much in his speech following Trump’s near-miss with death. Not even two minutes into his brief address, Biden referred to the January 6th riot at the Capitol as an example of political violence, alongside the attack on Paul Pelosi and the incredibly shady “plot” to kidnap Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Notably absent were the examples I referenced above, much clearer and more obvious examples of violence inspired by political rhetoric. Though they might be inconvenient to mention given it’s Biden and his ilk that were the ones who inspired the perpetrators.
Worse still, there seems to be a desire by Democrats to remove crucial protections from targets of political violence that makes incidents like the botched Trump assassination attempt inevitable.
Bennie Thompson, the ranking Democrat on the Congressional Homeland Security Committee, introduced the DISGRACED Former Protectees Act that would have seen Secret Service protection stripped from President Trump. Thompson was chair of the J6 Committee entirely dedicated to fear mongering about Trump.
There is a repeated pattern of Democrat’s using vile and hateful rhetoric to paint their opponents as worthy of violent suppression. Biden’s speech was out-of-touch and painfully hypocritical based on his repeated assertions that Trump represented an end-times level threat to America.
