Harris/Walz ‘Interview’ Gives No Answers, Just Endless Questions
November will come and pass with no one quite sure where Kamala Harris stands on a damn thing.
As of the writing of this piece, Kamala Harris has not sat down for a TV interview. Some might try and argue that what happened last night on CNN was an interview, but what the American people saw was just more avoidance by an administration that realizes it has nothing to campaign on.
Before the thing even started Americans were shocked to learn it was a mere 18 minutes long. Even more concerning is that it was a pre-recorded and edited interview, meaning Harris couldn’t face the pressure of a longform, live interview. She couldn’t even do the 18 minutes by herself, preferring to have her dad Tim Walz with her in case she entirely imploded.
As for the interview itself, the night started off poorly. CNN’s Dana Bash asked what the Harris/Walz administration would do day one if elected. Harris’ response felt less like a presidential candidate and more like a highschooler desperately trying to reach the length requirement on her English essay.
“Well, there are a number of things. I will tell you first and foremost one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class,” Harris stumbled. “When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by — by hope and by optimism.”
Which means… what exactly? Is hope and optimism going to buoy the middle class? Is joy going to pay for their groceries?
As Harris explained later in the interview, she’d “already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re gonna do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re gonna do to invest in America’s small businesses, what we’re gonna do to invest in families.”
Ah, clears everything up.
By the way, extrapolating those comments reveals that her plan to reduce grocery prices is to institute communist-style price controls in an attempt to cut down on so-called price gouging. So that’s not great.
Perhaps the most pressing question of the night was why Harris has seemingly flipped on every single position she’s previously held. From fracking to immigration, the Harris of 2024 seems almost completely unrecognizable from the Harris of 2020 or even the Harris of 2023.
For this question, Harris hit her talking point and she hit it hard. No less than three times during the 18 minute embarrassment did Harris claim “ my values have not changed.”
When pressed on her position to ban fracking, Harris claimed “Well, let’s be clear. My values have not changed. I believe it is very important that we take seriously what we must do to guard against what is a clear crisis in terms of the climate. And to do that, we can do what we have accomplished thus far.”
Bash then threw Harris a softball, asking if it was because Harris had “more experience now” and had “learned more” that she made a 180 on almost all of her agenda.
“Dana, I think the — the — the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” Harris stammered before bewilderingly referencing that her border policy of all things indicated she had been consistent all this time.
“I spent two terms as the attorney general of California prosecuting transnational criminal organizations, violations of American laws regarding the passage, illegal passage of guns, drugs, and human beings across our border,” Harris said. “My values did not change.”
The gall of Harris trying to claim that her values on the border haven’t changed is laughable. Now that the Biden/Harris administration realizes that immigration could be an issue that obliterates Democrats in November, they’re trying to pretend Harris’ border czar strategy of keeping the border wide open is just a fairy tale.
Maybe Harris is just being blatantly honest in saying that her values haven’t changed. Maybe it’s a brazen admission that should she enter the White House, all of the progressive California incompetency will follow her.
In some ways, it doesn’t matter if Harris actually ever ends up sitting down for an interview. Bash highlighted just why this entire endeavor is so pointless when she preened Harris for 18 minutes and gave her the opportunity to say whatever she wanted with no pushback.
Americans deserve to see Harris under the microscope, pressed on the intricacies of policy and held accountable for the claims and promises she’s made in the past. “My values did not change” is simply not an acceptable answer in the face of overwhelming evidence that they have.
But I don’t trust the media to deliver the goods. And so November will come and pass with no one quite sure where Kamala Harris stands on a damn thing.
