Harris Tries to Exorcize Her Far-Left Past. Time for a Séance
The ghosts of Harris’ past, present, and future loom large. They, and she, will need to be exorcized if the Republic is to survive. Time to call the Ghostbusters.
As Harris continues her march towards her inevitable Democratic nomination, her past policy statements are rising from the grave to haunt her campaign. A recent ad by the Trump campaign attempted to paint Harris as “dangerously liberal” over her open borders plan, while a Dave McCormick ad in critical Pennsylvania highlights Harris’ status as “the most liberal nominee ever.”
In response, Harris has quickly attempted to pivot to the center. Harris staffers told the New York Times they will “rebut most of Republicans’ attacks by arguing that they are exaggerating or lying about her record.”
They continued “In addition to changing her position on fracking, campaign officials said she now backed the Biden administration’s budget requests for increased funding for border enforcement; no longer supported a single-payer health insurance program; and echoed Mr. Biden’s call for banning assault weapons but not a requirement to sell them to the federal government.”
But those attempts to bury the past are doomed to fail simply because they’re lies.
First of all, there has been zero attempt from the Harris camp to explain why she has completely flipped on her far-left positions in the few days since she became the presumptive nominee.
Harris publicly held wildly out-of-step positions when she last ran for President in 2020. On certain issues like energy production, she was part of the Biden administration’s attempts to ban domestic oil production. What reason, other than political expediency, do Pennsylvania voters have to believe that the woman who said “there is no question I'm in favor of banning fracking" has suddenly had a change of heart?
Or what about her views on crime? The Harris campaign has said it plans on using Harris’s record as a tough-on-crime prosecutor to allay voter’s concerns about public safety issues. But she’s already flopped on that issue before.
She was pro-law enforcement during her tenure as California AG, then during the 2020 primary she made a mad dash to the left. During a 2020 radio interview, Harris said America needed to “redirect resources” from the police and that “we have to reimagine public safety in America.”
But perhaps more damningly, Harris eagerly encouraged people to support the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a fundraiser used to free violent criminals and looters during the 2020 BLM riots. “If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota,” Harris posted on Twitter.
One offender freed by the fund, a certain Shawn Tillman, went on to kill again.
Now she’s back to being the tough-as-nails prosecutor? Spare me. It’s more of the same lies that she thinks will get her into office. The mainstream media serving as DNC propaganda organs will try to convince the American people Harris’ massive policy reversals are normal. The AP says she’s "calibrating her policy pitch." I didn’t realize it took decades to calibrate a policy pitch, especially one as schizophrenic as Harris’.
Harris couldn’t ask for better allies in the media as they’ve buried her leftist skeletons before.
After she was selected as VP in 2020, the New York Times painted her as a "pragmatic moderate" and tried to play down her record as the Senate’s most liberal member by claiming she “showed a distinctly Biden-like impatience with what she characterized as the grand but impractical governing designs of some in her party.”
Apparently she doesn’t count as having those grand but impractical designs.
And going back to Biden, that may have been the most jarring flip-flop of all. During the 2020 primary debates, Harris infamously accused Biden as being a racist due to his role in the 1994 Crime Bill and his views on forced bussing.
When asked to square the circle of accepting the veep slot for a supposed racist, Harris cackled her trademark cackle and replied “It was a debate!”
Harris is an empty shell. Her opinions change so fast, the media barely has time to clean the dirt of their shovels from burying her previous positions before they have to go digging again. Harris will do whatever she thinks will make her the most popular with her party.
And that’s what makes her so dangerous.
As the Democratic party dives headfirst into even more radical policies, the spirit of Leftism will possess Harris’ body to haunt the American public. Sure, now she’s saying no gun buybacks. But her base is rabidly anti-gun. Sure, now she’s saying no fracking ban. But what about the Green New Deal? Sure, now she’s saying the border needs to be closed. But think of all those future Democratic voters!
The ghosts of Harris’ past, present, and future loom large. They, and she, will need to be exorcized if the Republic is to survive.
Who ya gonna call?
