Democrats’ Trans Bathroom Battle is a Political Turd
As swing and minority voters continue to punish the party on this issue, I’ll cackle at their failure to grow from their electoral misfortunes.
I don’t always agree with Rep. Nancy Mace, but she’s spot on for the need to protect women’s rights on Capitol Hill.
The South Carolina Congresswoman made headlines when she proposed a change to the House rules that would block members from entering bathrooms other than those representing their biological sex.
"I know how vulnerable women and girls are in private spaces," Mace told a group of reporters on Tuesday. "So I'm absolutely, 100 percent, going to stand in the way of any man who wants to be in a women's restroom, in our locker rooms, in our changing rooms, I will be there fighting you every step of the way."
Mace was moved to take a stand following the election of Delaware representative “Sarah” McBride (né Tim). McBride is the nation’s first transgender congressman and his victory means the fight over bathrooms has made its way to the hallowed halls of Congress.
Speaker Mike Johnson released a statement backing Mace and affirming that “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.”
Johnson also noted that the whole thing was somewhat moot, writing “It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.”
Johnson’s tack is the politically correct one, though I align myself more with Mace’s position. There is little reason to burn more political capital than necessary on this. McBride can stand to pee in his own office if he needs to go so badly, or use the multitude of single-use stalls located on the Capitol grounds if he’s out.
Ironically, Johnson’s position seems to be the one that transgender advocates themselves had been pushing prior to achieving institutional power. Instead of having separate facilities, activists argued the best way to sidestep the problem was to eliminate such gendered spaces entirely in favor of single use stalls.
Now that trans zealots have wormed their way into the highest halls of influence, bathrooms are battlefields of control. Why push for unisex bathrooms when you can socially pressure vulnerable women into letting men into their intimate spaces?
To his credit, McBride has said he will comply with the Speaker’s rules, but that hasn’t stopped his Democratic colleagues from kvetching about supposed Republican bigotry.
"This is not just bigotry, this is just plain bullying,” AOC said per Axios, while fellow New York Democrat Rep. Joe Morelle said “She's a woman. She should use the ladies room.” Bafflingly, it was PA Senator John Fetterman who seemed most enraged at the policy.
“There’s no job I’m afraid to lose if it requires me to degrade anyone,” Fetterman wrote on Twitter. “If that’s a defining issue for a voter, there will be a different candidate. We have a bathroom in my office that anybody is welcome to use, including Representative-elect Sarah McBride.”
Okay? That was always allowed?
It boggles my mind that Democrats are doubling down on an ideology that objectively has cost them votes. As this author previously reported, an ad that highlighted Kamala Harris’ support for taxpayer-funded sex-reassignment surgeries for inmates and illegal migrants shifted voters towards Trump by nearly 3 points.
And data from Harris-aligned polling firm BluePrint indicated that the number one reason swing voters turned against Harris was a perception that she was too focused on cultural issues like transgenderism and not enough on promoting the middle class.
This issue is an active turnoff for a lot of Americans but Democrats can’t seem to let it go. Want more proof? When Democrats do actively try to distance themselves from trans toxicity, they face internal party revolts and attacks from myriad external interest groups.
During an interview with The New York Times, Massachusetts representative Seth Moulten said, "Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face. I have two little girls. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, I’m supposed to be afraid to say that."
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey raged that Moulten was “playing politics with people” and “picking on particularly vulnerable children.” Moulten’s campaign director quit over the comments, writing on Twitter that “Millions of Americans today showed that they hate immigrants and transgender people more than they fear fascism.”
And the ever execrable Congresswoman Ayana Pressley tweeted "This election cycle wasn’t the first time we saw the trans community scapegoated and dehumanized, but know this: I will always stand with trans people and the entire LGBTQ+ community. This Congresswoman sees you and loves you."
Democrats' unwavering allegiance to the trans cult is a political death wish. As swing and minority voters continue to punish the party on this issue, I’ll cackle at their failure to grow from their electoral misfortunes.
If the Democrats want to double down on defending men in skirts over the middle-class, I won’t stop them. They can piss away their political power one election at a time.
