Conservatives Must Act to Purge Deep State Saboteurs
All the doomsaying about Project 2025 ignores how career bureaucrats have openly admitted to stymieing the conservative agenda. These deep state actors must be removed.
In yet more evidence the left sees Nazi-esque shadows around every corner, a recent article from the Associated Press is attempting to fear monger surrounding efforts by a conservative advocacy group to hold federal employees accountable.
The American Accountability Foundation is currently combing through the various public social media accounts of a number of federal employees to note if there is the potential for political chicanery in a potential second Trump administration. Those fears are warranted as during Trump’s first term, there were numerous examples of career politicians actively attempting to sabotage Trump’s agenda out of spite.
Immediately following Trump’s election, The Washington Post printed a piece titled “Resistance from within: Federal workers push back against Trump” that highlighted acts of deliberate subterfuge by career workers claiming that Trump’s election represented “an existential threat.”
“At the Justice Department, an employee in the division that administers grants to nonprofits fighting domestic violence and researching sex crimes said the office has been planning to slow its work and to file complaints with the inspector general’s office if asked to shift grants away from their mission,” the Post noted. One unnamed bureaucrat who gleefully noted, “You’re going to see the bureaucrats using time to their advantage. Through leaks to news organizations and internal complaints, people here will resist and push back against orders they find unconscionable.”
Bloomberg backed this report up with one of its own, “Washington Bureaucrats Are Quietly Working to Undermine Trump’s Agenda,” detailing how “across the government, career staffers are finding ways to continue old policies, sometimes just by renaming a project.”
The outlet gave one example of this flippant refusal to do their job from the Department of Defense. DoD directly went against Trump’s attempts to reverse President Obama’s 2016 Presidential Memorandum on Climate Change and National Security. Bloomberg wrote
Rather than reverse or alter that directive after Trump’s order, staff at the Pentagon launched what it called a review, which served to forestall changes. Adam Stump, a department spokesman, refused to say whether that review has concluded, or what it found. For now, he said, the directive issued under Obama’s administration remains current.
It is this refusal to enact the policies of a duly elected that endlessly frustrates conservatives. It seems even when we win elections, we are stymied and blocked at every turn by unelected leftist bureaucrats who think they know better than the American people.
It is these types of deep-state actors, so deeply entrenched in the federal government, that the American Accountability Foundation and the much maligned Project 2025 from the Heritage Foundation seeks to remove.
And no, the AP didn’t forget Project 2025.
The Associated Press spolighted a $100,000 Innovation Award the Heritage Foundation gave to the American Accountability Foundation last month. Per the AP, Heritage praised the “investigative researchers, in-depth reports, and educational efforts to alert Congress, a conservative administration, and the American people to the presence of anti-American bad actors burrowed into the administrative state and ensure appropriate action is taken.”
To some, this echoed Senator Joseph McCarthy's controversial attempts to purge the federal government of Communists.
To this point, McCarthy was absolutely correct that Communists had successfully infiltrated high-ranking positions in the government and was correct in seeking to root them out. The list of Americans implicated of working with the Soviets in the Venona Project was long and frightening, including State and UN official Alger Hiss, senior Treasury official Harry Dexter White, and married couple Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who passed top-secret military information to Moscow.
But were we to apply the left’s protections of career bureaucrats to the Red Scare, Hiss and his communist sympathizers should have remained protected from scrutiny. After all, they do know best.
The fear mongering continues. From the AP, “Heritage’s Project 2025 proposes reviving the Trump Schedule F policy that would try to reclassify tens of thousands of federal workers as political appointees, which could enable mass dismissals.” Some fear Trump wouldn’t target high level cabinet members who Trump can legally fire because he installed them. No no, some poor schmuck doing his job at the EPA could lose his job just because Trump doesn’t like him.
But this is not so. Project 2025 recommends the government “reissue Trump’s Schedule F executive order to permit discharge of nonperforming employees.” Not liberal employees. Not Democrats. Nonperforming. It doesn’t mention doing it on account of people’s political views, anyone with differing political opinions that still do their jobs would be allowed to stay.
Those claiming that Trump would purge every career bureaucrat regardless of their effectiveness at enacting his popularly mandated vision doomsaying what they think will happen.
Besides, whether or not it’s a “poor schmuck” at the bottom or top brass involved, the initial point still stands. A president is well within his rights to sack workers who refuse to do their jobs, regardless of their position within the bureaucracy. If a low-level staffer wants to be a leftist darling, they should fully expect an incoming conservative President to give them the boot.
As much as the Associated Press and other DNC propaganda organs would like you to fret, there is nothing untoward in what the American Accountability Foundation and the Heritage Foundation are doing. Conservatives have finally woken up to the biggest obstacle to implementing their agenda and are working to remove it. Leftists and their media allies are sounding the alarm to try and stop it.
To quote our old friend Sen. McCarthy, “Our job as Americans and as Republicans is to dislodge the traitors from every place where they've been sent to do their traitorous work.”
Time to get pruning.
